Vlog Episode 9 - Stay Tuned...

Well this is episode 9 and you probably expected to see me at dawn, walking down Laurel Street, holding my iPhone at myself, just having a conversation. I started that because we were making a feature length movie on ending addiction.

And someone said, “You’re writing these blogs, you’re making the movie—you know, maybe you want to do a vlog." And I tried that; and we learned a lot. We learned that our goal of getting a new conversation started in America about ending the problem of addiction in our country is really best done with a new medium like Youtube, and not an old medium like a feature video that you’d have to see on Netflix or you’d have to sit down for 90 minutes to watch.

We’re switching. We’re not going to make the movie. Instead, we’re going to put the movie on Youtube. As you can see, the videography is going to change, the sound is going to change. Hopefully things will get a lot more professional-looking because we’ll take the professional effort we were spending on the movie and put it here.

So what we’re going to do is stop the vlogs here. We’re going to take the professionalism we were putting into the movie and start putting it into these videos and restart the vlog series as the movie. Thank you so much to everybody who’s communicated to me through the vlogs, who’s found me on Twitter and Facebook and LinkedIn and Youtube. Thank you to all of the people who, because of those vlogs, asked me to come talk at your conferences. It’s been great getting this conversation started. We’re going to continue this conversation and it’s going to get better.

Because that’s our goal, to get a conversation started: not between academics, not with politicians, not with doctors, but with all of us. All Americans should be involved in this conversation. That’s how we started this vlog: it was about you, regular people, talking about addiction—all the ways your needs weren’t being served, all the ways we were doing the wrong thing as a country to get rid of this problem, all the money we’re wasting, all the time we’re wasting, all the lives we’re wasting. Our job is to make these videos in a way that is useful to the conversation. Your job is to like them, subscribe, share, tell your friends to come and take a look at the channel. Comment on the channel; get the conversation started. Because it’s not just my voice that’s important. More important is your voice. See you next time. Have a great day.
